Farmers of the Tambov region harvested a record 5.8 million tons of grain in 2025, which is actually 60% more than the average for the year. This was stated by the governor of the region Evgeny Pervyshov at a meeting with Vladimir Putin on May 6. The authorities are also actively developing exports of poultry meat and halal products, which are in demand in Arab countries. Meanwhile, problems remain in the region due to a drop in the population and a decrease in housing commissioning rates.

What was discussed at the meeting

The region is actively engaged in supporting soldiers and veterans of its Armed forces, especially in terms of their employment. Evgeny Pervyshov himself is a graduate of the Time of Heroes program and the first veteran of a special operation to head a constituent entity of the Russian Federation. In the region, he is actively developing a similar personnel program "Heroes of Tambov region".

"Many guys are finding themselves in life now: either they return to their usual jobs, or after passing certain exams and tests they find themselves in the state and municipal service," said Evgeny Pervyshov. At the same time, he called the preservation of the population of the Tambov region the main area of work. To do this, the authorities plan to create new jobs and increase salaries. "Unfortunately, today we have lost these positions, and the trend is still quite difficult," he said.

Vladimir Putin drew the governor's attention to the decline in housing starts. Evgeny Pervyshov explained this with good results over the past year — the Tambov region exceeded the target set by the government. Four schools are also being built in the region in 2026, and another 28 schools, 14 kindergartens, and eight colleges are awaiting major repairs. In total, this will provide 23 thousand student places.

The Tambov Region has fully repaid its commercial loan, and the region is gradually reducing its debt burden on the national debt. The volume of the consolidated budget is growing, spending on the implementation of national and regional projects.

The agricultural industry has achieved good results — the Tambov region set a record for grain last year. Previously, the maximum harvest was 3.6 million tons per year, but in 2025 this figure increased to 5.8 million tons. The region also ranks first in the country in corn harvesting, and second in flour production, according to the governor. The entity is increasing exports to Arab countries — halal products and poultry meat are especially in demand. Trade relations with China are also actively developing.
