A case of embezzlement during the renovation of a square in Chita was submitted to the court

In Chita, the materials of the criminal case on fraud in the improvement of the Labor square were sent to the court. The damage from illegal actions was estimated at 11.6 million rubles.

The investigation found that in 2019, the entrepreneur signed a municipal contract with the city administration committee for repair work in the amount of about 60 million rubles. Later, he enlisted his friend as a subcontractor. His organization actually did some of the work.

All this time, false information was entered into the documents, unreasonable coefficients were used, and the cost of work was overestimated. Some types of work were never completed, and the documents indicated the opposite.

According to ChitaMedia news agency, experts have established that the installation of side stones, paving slabs, small architectural forms and lighting elements has not been completed, waterproofing and installation of structures were carried out with violations or not at all.

According to investigators, 11.6 million rubles were stolen by the defendants due to overestimation of the volume and cost of work. The property of the defendants in the case was seized in excess of 30 million rubles in order to ensure possible compensation for damage. The defendants face up to 10 years in prison.

Earlier, Alexey Goncharov, acting Deputy chairman of the government of the Trans-Baikal Territory, resigned after an accident involving him, in which a woman died last summer. A fatal accident involving Goncharov occurred in the Uletovsky district of the Trans-Baikal Territory on the evening of July 21 on the Irkutsk–Chita federal highway. The Mercedes Benz driver, who turned out to be Goncharov, drove into the oncoming lane and collided with a Toyota Fielder. As a result of the incident, a Toyota passenger died in the hospital.
