It became known about the promise of a $5,000 patch in scam centers in Myanmar.
Recruiters lure foreigners to scam centers in Myanmar with promises of high salaries of up to $5,000 per month and additional interest. This was announced on May 6 by a Russian woman released from the center.
"At first, a city in Thailand was designated, but after a while, when we were already discussing the details, I was told that the company was moving to another location — to Yangon, Myanmar. I was wary, but I was attracted by the salary — $5,000 plus interest. They promised office work," she told RIA Novosti.
Despite her doubts, the agency's interlocutor fell for the fraudulent offer due to the high salary. As the Russian woman noted, the vacancy looked official and did not arouse serious suspicion.
On May 5, the press service of the Russian Embassy in Thailand reported that, with the assistance of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and employees of the Russian Embassy in Myanmar, two Russian citizens released from fraudulent call centers were transferred to representatives of the Russian diplomatic mission in Thailand. It is specified that now the Russians are provided with the necessary consular assistance and help to arrange documents for their return to the Russian Federation.
Also on February 3, it was reported that a Russian woman had been released from a fraudulent call center in Myanmar through the joint efforts of diplomats, Thai and Myanmar police. According to the diplomatic mission, there is a criminal network operating in Myanmar that recruits foreign citizens, including Russian citizens, for alleged employment in Thailand. Later, another Russian woman was released.
