The doctor named one of the main causes of memory impairment
Marina Ivanova, a nutritionist at the Fitomarket marketplace, told on Tuesday, May 5, what can cause absent-mindedness, a feeling of fog in the head, memory impairment and concentration.
The specialist explained that memory can deteriorate due to constant stress, as it increases the level of the stress hormone cortisol, and this negatively affects a person's ability to remember and learn.
"Cortisol in small doses mobilizes the body, but with a chronic increase it disrupts the work of the memory center in the brain and suppresses the activity of the prefrontal cortex, responsible for rational thinking and impulse control. At the same time, the reactivity of the fear and anxiety zone in the brain increases. As a result, it becomes more difficult for a person to concentrate, make decisions and control emotions," she said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .
According to the nutritionist, stress is almost always accompanied by poor sleep, which prevents the brain from fully recovering, namely, during deep sleep, metabolic products and toxins are excreted from brain tissue. As a result, a vicious circle is formed: stress disrupts sleep, and lack of sleep increases stress and reduces concentration, Ivanova added.
Earlier it became known that both light and intense physical activity reduces sleep disorders in elderly people with moderate cognitive disorders, reports 360.ru .
Experts point out that lack of night rest increases the risk of developing diabetes, depression and dementia.
