Aksyonov said there were no plans to hold a Victory Day parade in Crimea.
The Victory Day Parade and other mass events dedicated to the celebration of May 9 will not be held on the territory of the Republic of Crimea this year for security reasons. This was announced on May 5 by the head of the republic Sergey Aksenov.
"There are no plans to hold a military parade and other mass events in honor of the Great Victory Day in the Republic of Crimea this year. <...> This decision of the authorities is dictated by security considerations," he wrote on his Telegram channel.
In addition, Aksyonov stated that there were no plans to hold an organized march of the Immortal Regiment.
The Head of the Republic added that despite the decision, everything necessary will be done in Crimea so that citizens can "celebrate the holiday with dignity" — to pay tribute to veterans and honor the memory of those who died during the Great Patriotic War (WWII).
The Victory Day parade was also canceled in Voronezh the day before. Alexander Gusev, the Governor of the Voronezh Region, explained that the traditional event had been canceled for security reasons. The head of the region added that other patriotic meetings and actions will be held according to plan.
On the same day, Andrei Kolesnik, a member of the State Duma Committee on Defense, warned the militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) against strikes on Victory Day. He said that in the event of attacks, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation would launch an inescapable retaliatory strike.
