- The head of the Pentagon called the US operation in the Strait of Hormuz limited in time.
The US operation Project Freedom in the Strait of Hormuz is limited in time. This was announced on May 5 by the head of the Pentagon, Pete Hegseth.
"Operation Project Freedom is defensive in nature, limited in scope and duration," he told reporters.
According to him, the main task of the operation is to protect peaceful shipping from Iran. The head of the Pentagon also stressed that the United States does not seek conflict with the Islamic Republic. In addition, the US military does not plan to enter Iran's airspace or territorial waters as part of the operation.
Earlier in the day, American helicopter gunships destroyed two Iranian boats in the Strait of Hormuz during Operation Freedom. It was noted that helicopters are used for operations in and near the Strait of Hormuz.
The day before, the Central Command of the US Armed Forces (CENTCOM) reported that the United States would begin supporting the Freedom Project in order to restore freedom of navigation for commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz with the participation of 15,000 military personnel.
At the same time, the head of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian Parliament, Ebrahim Azizi, said that Iran would regard any US interference in the navigation regime through the Strait of Hormuz as a violation of the ceasefire between the parties.
