Two US military personnel who disappeared during the African Lion exercise in Morocco could have drowned. This was reported on May 4 by CBS News, citing sources.

According to a preliminary report, a group of American servicemen went ashore to watch the sunset. When one of the soldiers fell into the water, his colleagues tried to save him, but they were unable to do so. Then another soldier jumped into the water, but he was immediately covered by a wave.

According to the TV channel, over the past three days, two missing persons have been searched along the southern coast of Morocco with the help of planes, drones, divers and ships.

The African Lion is the largest annual joint military exercise led by the African Command of the US Armed Forces (AFRICOM), one of the 11 joint military commands of the US Department of Defense. Thousands of military personnel from the United States, African partner countries and NATO allies are taking part in them, who are preparing to conduct combat operations on land, in the air, at sea, in cyberspace and outer space.

On May 3, the press service of AFRICOM reported that two American servicemen disappeared during military exercises in Morocco. The participants in the exercise have begun search and rescue operations involving land, air and sea assets.
