Russian TV series are breaking popularity records. According to the objective rating of Medialogia, the audience's interest in the first quarter of 2026 shifted towards domestic films.

Among the leaders are several projects of the National Media Group, for example, the series "Lilies of the Valley". On May 5, Izvestia columnist Nikolai Nikulin told what else the audience chose.

The finale of the series "Stranger Things" caused a storm of discussion. As a result, the fifth season became the most discussed and watched series in January and, according to the Russian rating of series, the overall leader for the first quarter of 2026.

"Almost every season, the main characters develop a plan to defeat the mystical evil. They give out roles, try to think a few moves ahead. Their opponent in the finale is really scary: Vecna, a powerful being capable of penetrating the mind," the film critic noted.

"Very Strange Things" took the first place only in March, skipping ahead of the Japanese anime "Magic Battle". In general, the top five rating leaders for the quarter look like this: three Russian-made TV series: these are "Lilies of the Valley", "First Division" and "Trace", the record holder for the number of episodes.

"Our series is 18 years old, we already have a lot of experience, I think that even any similar projects in this genre will not be able to surpass us. Every person, every actor, every director, every team is developing and moving on. How many attempts have there been to shoot something similar, they're still watching Sled, because we're already far ahead," said actress Olga Koposova.

The Medialogia rating provides the most objective picture of TV series viewing and uses 19 metrics, including search engine data, TV views, and social media discussion. This is how the final scores for each project are generated.

"Very Strange Cases" scored almost 16,000 points in the first quarter of 2026. The second place, "Lily of the Valley", has almost 9 thousand.. 61 of the 100 most popular projects are Russian. Here is the sitcom "Daddy's daughters. New", and "Vampires of the Middle lane", and "SMERSH", and, of course, "Fischer" with Ivan Yankovsky.

"First of all, it is always very good when some new metric or set of metrics appears that allow us to evaluate rather subjective things. It speaks to the interest, the interest of the viewer. Our responsibility as an industry is to follow these interests," added producer Alexander Akopov.

The success of the domestic product is evident. The creators of "Fisher," for example, have already announced the production of a new season featuring actor Alexander Petrov.

"The people who are behind all this are, for example, Fyodor Bondarchuk, who puts a lot of effort, knowledge, and intuition into his work. This gives a good result," Petrov stressed.

Interestingly, the ninth-place TV series Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, a prequel to Game of Thrones, is also on the list of the best. The action of this series takes place 100 years before Daenerys Targaryen, with the help of dragons, began to fight for the Iron throne. The series is based on George Martin's novels, which he considers his best works.

The main result is that viewers still like foreign fantasy, and in the domestic segment they prefer crime or comedy series. By the way, more than 80% of Russian projects are not digital, but television premieres.

On March 24, Medialogia presented on its website a Russian series rating consisting of the 100 most popular projects of the past year. The South Korean thriller "The Squid Game" took the first place with 42,861 points, the second place was taken by the American science fiction series "Stranger Things" (26,572 points), and the third place was taken by the Russian detective "Sled" (20,361 points).

Producer Maxim Korolev said that the rating will make it easier for content producers to understand the viewer's request. He also noted the success of the series "Sled", which entered the top 100 most popular series of 2025 and took third place.
