Senator of the Federation Council Airat Gibatdinov proposed to reduce New Year's holidays in favor of the May holidays on May 5.

"In my opinion, it is worth considering the possibility of reducing the length of the New Year holidays in favor of increasing the May holidays. According to the production calendar for 2027, New Year's holidays will again last longer than 10 days, while the May weekend is much shorter and divided into working days," he shared in an interview with RIA Novosti.

According to him, most Russians plan a May vacation in nature or in the countryside due to the good weather, but they are forced to interrupt their vacation and return to work in a few days. The senator took the initiative to distribute the winter and May holidays in a balanced manner in order to save the number of vacation days and make vacation planning more convenient.

Vladislav Grib, Secretary of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation, announced on April 29 that the May holidays could be made continuous from May 1 to May 9 at the expense of January weekends. It is noted that many residents of the country already extend the May holidays due to vacations and time off, and such a measure could facilitate the system of organizing holidays.
