President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced a "regime of silence" on the night of May 5 to 6. He wrote about this on May 4 in his Telegram channel.
"We are announcing a silence regime starting at 00:00 on the night of May 5 to 6. In the time available up to this point, it is realistic to ensure the onset of silence. We will act in a mirror manner, starting from the specified moment," Zelensky wrote.
According to Zelensky, he allegedly did not receive proposals on the terms of the truce for the period of Victory Day celebrations on May 8 and 9 from Moscow.
Earlier in the day, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin had decided to declare a truce on May 8-9 to celebrate the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War. The ministry expressed the hope that the Ukrainian side would also join the ceasefire. The Russian military will take all measures to ensure the safety of the celebrations.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on April 16 that Ukraine's refusal to cease fire during the Easter truce had not demonstrated the will to peace. According to Zakharova, the Ukrainian Armed Forces violated the ceasefire 6.5 thousand times. and they were not going to reciprocate the regime of silence announced by the President of Russia.
