The Moscow metro has received almost 100 more new cars.
The renovation of the metro's rolling stock continues in Moscow — according to Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, 96 more Moscow-2026 series wagons have been accepted for the Zamoskvoretskaya Line. In total, 144 cars of the new series are now operating on this branch — the best and most technologically advanced metro trains in the world, which are produced in Russia, the mayor wrote in his channel in Maks.
Prior to the renovation, the Zamoskvoretskaya Line fleet consisted entirely of Numbered wagons. Compared to them, the capacity of one train has now increased by about 10%, and the doors have become 32% wider, the mayor said.
The new cars are also equipped with an improved passenger—driver communication unit, metal joints have been removed between the seats, and the glazing area on the entrance group handrails has been increased. The rear-view cameras and headlamps on the head of the train have also undergone changes, which now form a "single light strip," Sobyanin added.
The Moscow-2026 wagons are equipped with USB and Type-C connectors for charging, information screens and adaptive lighting.
"Since 2010, the share of modern trains in the capital has grown from 13% to 80%, and in 2030 it will reach 90%. Every year, the Moscow metro receives on average more than 300 Russian cars," the mayor wrote.
In March, Sergei Sobyanin announced that Russia's first unmanned metro train had traveled more than 1,000 km along the Bolshaya Koltsevaya Line. The testing was conducted for two months. Tests of the train based on the domestic model "Moscow-2024" took place without passengers, the driver was in the cabin for control. "During the tests, the specialist never interfered with the operation of the system — it proves its reliability and safety," the mayor stressed. It is planned to transport passengers on unmanned trains from 2027, and the first fully unmanned line should be operational by 2030.
