- Premiere screenings of the play "Idiot" will take place at the Pushkin Theater
On May 13 and 14, the premiere performances of the play "The Idiot" based on the novel of the same name by F.M. Dostoevsky will take place on the Main Stage of the Moscow Drama Theater named after A.S. Pushkin. Directed by Sergey Tonyshev.
After a long period of treatment in Switzerland, Prince Lev Nikolaevich Myshkin returns to St. Petersburg. He has no friends or acquaintances in this damp, foggy and noisy city. But it soon turns out that everyone who meets the prince on his way — from a general to a beggar, from a drunkard to an aristocrat, from a high school student to an old man – needs his attention and love.
Sergei Tonyshev's play is not an illustration of a novel, but a reflection on a world in which virtue seems to be madness, and the ability to be compassionate leads to a loss of reason.
Sergey Tonyshev (director): "I love Dostoevsky very much, because it is always the highest degree of immersion in a person. Sometimes you read a novel or a play and you immediately understand the actions of the characters and their motivation. And in Dostoevsky it is impossible to unequivocally answer the question "why?". There is a contradiction in the very nature of his characters, which we are trying to solve, to look at this world through the eyes of a prince and understand how the proximity of another person leads to illness, which gives rise to madness."
