The probation period is a key stage in the adaptation of a new employee: it is during this period that the employer evaluates his professional and personal qualities and decides on further cooperation. A career consultant at the Profi service told Izvestia about this on May 5.<url>" by Vladislav Taushankov.

The expert recalled that in accordance with the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, the maximum probation period is three months, and for senior positions it can reach six months.

According to Taushankov, there are no single universal criteria for evaluating employees: each company forms its own expectations. However, in practice, employers most often pay attention to the speed of completing tasks, compliance with corporate rules, the level of responsibility and the ability to adapt in a team.

"Not only professionalism is assessed, but also behavior, how involved a person is, how they communicate with colleagues, whether they can solve problems on their own or immediately seek help," the consultant noted.

Informal factors also play an important role. Excessive interruptions, constant complaints, or lack of feedback can create a negative impression of an employee.

Separately, the expert stressed that probation wages should be paid in full, as stipulated in the employment contract. The reduction in pay due to the "novice" status is contrary to the labor legislation of the Russian Federation.

According to Taushankov, an important skill during the adaptation period is the ability to understand the expectations of the manager and the team. It is absolutely normal in the first month to fix key requirements and monitor the processes. It helps to adapt faster and reduce stress.

The expert also drew attention to the initiative of the staff. According to him, the desire to prove oneself should be balanced and not disrupt existing processes.

"You need to be careful with the initiative. It is important not to break the system, but to propose improvements through dialogue and argumentation," the consultant noted.

According to him, the first weeks of work are becoming especially significant. During this period, it is important to demonstrate engagement and interest in tasks, as well as conduct your own "audit" of the company — to study products, processes and internal metrics. While an employee is new, they may notice things that become familiar to the team over time. Such observations often turn out to be valuable for the company," Taushankov added.

If difficulties arise, the expert advises not to hide them, but to discuss them with the supervisor in a timely manner and suggest possible solutions — from additional training to task adjustments.

In conclusion, he stressed that it is important to maintain a balance between engagement and personal boundaries during the probation period.

"It is important to be proactive, but not to lose yourself in work completely. An employee needs to maintain their own values and a sound approach to tasks," concluded Taushankov.

Margarita Antipova, an expert at get experts, said on April 6 that representatives of generation Z are increasingly acting as interviewers when applying for jobs, which is changing the format of business communication. According to her, zoomers quickly recognize a fake and lose interest in communication. No more stories about achievements will be able to regain trust and interest.
