The political scientist announced the possible outbreak of a conflict between Russia and NATO before 2029.

A potential conflict between Russia and NATO could allegedly begin even before the onset of 2029. This opinion was expressed on May 3 by German political scientist and military analyst Carlo Masala.

"This will not happen in 2029 or 2030, not in the time frame that NATO is currently focusing on. It is expected that this will happen sooner," he said during an interview with Welt.

The expert pointed out that the German armed forces are not sufficiently prepared for a potential conflict. The country has also long ignored the need to purchase new weapons systems and develop unmanned technologies.

There is also no consensus in German society regarding a possible future confrontation with the Russian Federation.

The movement of the bloc to the east may affect not only Ukraine, but also other post-Soviet countries.

In December 2025, the head of Estonia's Foreign Intelligence Service, Kaupo Rosin, said that Russia had no intention of attacking the Baltic states or NATO. He noted that Russia does not seek confrontation with the alliance and avoids incidents with its neighbors.
