The forest caught fire on an area of 100 hectares in the Czech Switzerland National Park. This was announced on May 2 by the Novinky portal.

"About 100 hectares, or about 1 square kilometer, of forests were engulfed by fire in the Czech Switzerland National Park on Saturday. Initially, firefighters claimed 900 hectares, but later clarified the data and significantly reduced the scale of the fire," the publication says.

The fire was assigned the highest category of complexity, which made it possible to involve units from different regions of the country to combat it. Currently, about 50 fire crews are involved in extinguishing the fire, and five helicopters equipped with large water tanks are providing air support.

According to fire department spokesman Tomasz Kalvoda, the fire engulfed trees, including their crowns, as well as last year's foliage and topsoil consisting of rotted pine needles and leaves. A particular danger is that the flames are spreading underground, which has caused several separate fires in the park.

"Firefighters and helicopter crews have to work in difficult conditions in remote mountainous terrain," Kalvoda stressed.

In turn, representatives of the Ministry of the Environment noted that they are closely monitoring developments and are in constant contact with the fire services and the leadership of the national Park.

News portal iDNES.cz On October 25, he reported that a warehouse where pyrotechnics and pressurized gas cylinders were stored had caught fire in the Czech region of Litomerice. Firefighters who arrived at the scene assigned the third level of danger to the fire and urged residents to refrain from ventilating their homes, as the air was polluted with chemical acrid smoke.
