In Vienna, protesters called for Austria's withdrawal from the European Union
On May 2, a protest rally was held in the center of Vienna, where participants criticized the Austrian authorities for supporting Ukraine and called for the country's withdrawal from the European Union (EU).
The rally was held at the Austrian Chancellor's office. The demonstrators held placards in support of neutrality and against NATO, criticizing the sanctions policy, rising prices and the actions of the authorities.
Among the slogans: "Cheap fuel, electricity, gas and food instead of sanctions," "We don't want to freeze for the sake of your policy," "Yes to neutrality and peace, no to NATO," RIA Novosti clarifies.
"No one wants wars at the expense of Austrian taxpayers," said Martin Rutter, one of the organizers of the rally, speaking from the stage.
He criticized the support of Ukraine and the policy of the European Union, called for Austria's withdrawal from the EU, and also said that because of the assistance to Kiev, the authorities had reduced social payments to their citizens.
Rutter also spoke out against the anti-Russian sanctions, noting that they had led to an increase in energy prices, and called for maintaining Austria's neutral status. After the rally, the demonstrators marched through the central streets of the city with Austrian flags and banners.
The head of the Russian delegation to the OSCE Security Cooperation Forum, Yulia Zhdanova, said on April 22 that European countries are not striving for sustainable peace in the OSCE region, but, on the contrary, are preparing for a large-scale conflict with Russia. She also noted that the European Union (EU) increased defense spending by almost 60% between 2022 and 2025, with an amount of 381 billion euros.
