- Putin signed a law on the creation of a gambling zone in the Altai Republic in Russia
Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law authorizing the creation of a gambling zone in the Altai Republic. The relevant decree was published on the official Internet portal of legal information on May 2.
Amendments were made to the law "On State Regulation of the Organization and Conduct of gambling and on Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Russian Federation."
Currently, there are five gambling zones in Russia — in the Republic of Crimea, Altai, Krasnodar and Primorsky Territories, as well as in the Kaliningrad region.
Nina Gukasova, PhD in Economics, director of the program of the Federal Methodological Center for Improving Literacy at the Presidential Academy (RANEPA), noted on February 19 that Russians would be warned about the risk of addiction in gambling advertising. The law, which aims to combat gambling addiction, was approved by the Federation Council and will enter into force on September 1. According to it, bookmakers, sweepstakes and casinos will be required to warn customers about the risk of developing ludomania.
