In the new draft of the peace agreement, Iran has softened its demands for the United States to resume negotiations. This was reported on May 2 by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing sources.

"The new Iranian proposal takes a step towards the United States, offering to discuss Tehran's conditions for opening the Strait of Hormuz at the same time as US guarantees to stop attacks and lift the blockade of Iranian ports," the publication says.

It is noted that Iran has made it clear to the mediators that it is ready to sit down at the negotiating table in Pakistan early next week if Washington is open to a new proposal. Earlier, Iran wanted the United States to lift the blockade as a precondition for negotiations and agree to terms for ending the war before discussing the future management of the strait and its nuclear program.

On May 1, US President Donald Trump said he was not satisfied with Iran's latest peace proposal. He said that Washington and Tehran are continuing telephone talks, but expressed doubt that the parties will be able to come to an agreement. According to him, Tehran should rework the last sentence because it is "very dissatisfied with it."

CNN reported on April 27 that the United States and Iran continue to conduct behind-the-scenes negotiations on a peaceful settlement, the first stage of which may be an agreement to return to the pre-war status quo and resume free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

On April 30, Trump instructed his aides to prepare for a prolonged blockade of Iran in the Strait of Hormuz in order to financially exhaust Tehran, as the head of the White House considers the resumption of bombing a risky option.
