Work on the May holidays will be paid in double the amount. The lawyer told about it on May 1. hh.ru Alexander Kuznetsov.

"According to the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, work on holidays or weekends is paid at an increased rate. Double compensation is provided to specialists on a salary, as well as to employees with hourly or piecework pay and shift workers," Kuznetsov said in an interview with RIA Novosti journalists.

The expert also said that an employee has the right to voluntarily waive double pay for work on holidays in favor of additional unpaid days off — the employer cannot impose such a decision. It is allowed to engage in work on public holidays only with the written consent of the employee, except in emergency cases (for example, to prevent or eliminate accidents).

In companies with continuous production, employees work on a schedule without additional consent, but retain the right to increased pay and time off, concluded Kuznetsov.

On April 28, Nargiz Mamazhanova, head of judicial projects at Intellectual Capital Law Firm, recalled that summer is the most sought-after holiday season, but rest at this time is not guaranteed at the legislative level. At the same time, there is a preferential category of employees who must be granted leave upon their request, regardless of length of service and schedule. These include pregnant women (before maternity leave), underage workers, people who adopted a child under three months of age, parents of disabled children, as well as some other categories.
