The priest explained the meaning of the Holy Trinity using a simple example
The feast of the Holy Trinity is celebrated on the fiftieth day after the Resurrection of Jesus. The celebration is connected with the trinity of the Savior, whose essence is manifested in God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. The Christian Church was also born on this date. Philip Ilyashenko, a priest and vice-rector of St. Tikhon's Orthodox University for the Humanities, told Izvestia about this.
As the priest noted, the trinity of the Trinity implies that the Lord is one, but is embodied in three persons. According to him, this event has become a key event in the formation of Orthodoxy.
"We believe in the Trinity of God: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. This is the first evidence, it is the foundation, the key and basic dogma of our Christianity in general and, accordingly, Orthodox Christianity," he said.
According to Ilyashenko, the feast of the Holy Trinity is also associated with the birth of the Christian Church as the body of Jesus. The Vice-rector of the St. Petersburg State University explained that this meant a community of believers led by the Savior himself.
"This is the day when the Holy Spirit descended on the disciples of Christ. This event is described in a historical source, the "Ideal of the Holy Apostles." It is said that there was a great noise, as if the wind were blowing, as if many wings were rustling in the air, and the Holy Spirit descended on the disciples in the form of fiery tongues. — Ed.). Both in iconography and in icon paintings, the disciples on the day of Holy Pentecost are depicted in prayer poses, with a flame above each of their heads. In other words, this is the day when the church is born," the priest emphasized.
The Vice-rector of St. Petersburg State University also clarified that at this time, Christ's commission to the apostles to "go and teach all nations" is remembered, that is, to preach Christianity to the whole world. That's why they got the opportunity to speak different languages, he concluded.
Earlier, Hieromonk Makary (Markish), a clergyman of the Ivanovo-Voznesenskaya Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church, told Izvestia that the feast of the Ascension of the Lord Jesus Christ in 2026 would be celebrated on May 21, and Holy Trinity Day on May 31. According to him, both of these events are directly related to the date of Easter and relate to the passing church holidays.
