Cardiologist called dangerous signs of heart overload in summer residents
In spring and summer, many citizens return to active work in rural areas, but unusual physical activity and heat can be a serious challenge for the cardiovascular system. Branislav Bogunovich, a cardiologist and deputy chief physician of the Intermedcenter clinic, told Izvestia about the symptoms that may indicate a dangerous overload of the heart and require immediate attention.
According to the expert, intensive gardening for an unprepared person is comparable to serious physical exertion, especially for those with heart disease. As a result, conditions preceding a heart attack or stroke may occur against the background of overload.
The doctor attributed severe weakness, sudden spikes in blood pressure, headache and dizziness to the alarming signs. Also dangerous are the appearance of shortness of breath, which did not exist before, palpitations and heart failure.
"Shortness of breath, which appeared and which did not exist before, rapid heartbeat, arrhythmia — this is already a reason to be alert and stop all work," he stressed.
Sudden temperature changes are a particular danger. The doctor explained that when cooling down after the heat, vascular spasm may occur. In the opposite situation, when leaving a cool room, the vessels expand dramatically. Such fluctuations, he said, are especially dangerous for people with pre-existing cardiovascular problems.
The specialist clarified that elderly summer residents, as well as people with chronic diseases such as hypertension and coronary heart disease, are primarily at high risk. Bad habits such as smoking and excessive alcohol consumption during the May holidays can make the situation worse.
"Even in young and healthy people, excessive alcohol consumption can cause unpleasant and disturbing sensations in the heart area. Those who know their diagnoses should be much more careful and take care of themselves," the cardiologist explained.
In addition, according to him, dehydration becomes an additional risk factor. This, in turn, can increase blood viscosity and increase the load on the heart.
Speaking about first aid, the doctor emphasized that if alarming symptoms appear, it is necessary to immediately stop working, move to a shade or cool place and ensure peace. If the condition worsens, you should immediately seek medical help.
Earlier, neurologist Yulia Yarygina told Izvestia about the dangers of working upside down in the garden. The specialist noted that prolonged stay in this position can lead to circulatory disorders, which increases the risk of stroke and heart failure.
