Accidents on Moscow's roads decreased by 16% at the beginning of the year
According to the results of the first quarter of 2026, the number of road accidents in Moscow decreased by 16% compared to last year, and the death toll by 40%. The Moscow State Traffic Inspectorate announced this in its channel in the Maks messenger on April 30.
In just three months, 1,430 accidents were recorded in Moscow, in which 36 people were killed and 1,708 injured.
As noted in the department, the main achievement was that there were no children killed in road accidents in Moscow in the first quarter. The number of traffic accidents involving children decreased by 12.2%, and the number of children injured in them decreased by 7.4%.
The head of the Moscow State Traffic Inspectorate, Major General of Police Alexander Bykov, linked the improvement of statistics with a set of preventive measures and the work of 3212 photo and video recording complexes that monitor 52 types of violations, the publication notes.
Earlier that day, the Traffic Management Center announced the technical readiness of the cameras to reduce the non-penalized speed limit from 20 to 2-3 km/h.
