American country singer David Coe has died at the age of 86. This was reported on April 30 by Rolling Stone magazine with reference to the musician's wife.

The publication notes that Kou spent a large part of his youth in prisons, serving time for various crimes — from organizing a robbery to car theft.

According to Rolling Stone, Coe became famous in the United States in the 1970s thanks to the compositions You Never Even Called Me by My Name and The Ride. The magazine calls him a "walking myth" because of his love of talking about his "adventures" in prisons and traveling. Rolling Stone also describes Coe as a "terribly eccentric personality" who is ready to "do anything to stand out" in the music world.
