- Axios reported on Trump's recommendation to Netanyahu to launch targeted strikes against Lebanon
US President Donald Trump has advised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to limit himself to targeted attacks on Lebanon. This was announced on April 30 by the Axios portal.
"I told Netanyahu that he should act more precisely. Do not destroy buildings. He can't do that. This is too terrible and casts a shadow on Israel," Trump said in a telephone conversation with the publication.
He added that he likes Lebanon and the Lebanese leadership, and, in Trump's opinion, this country can "be reborn." According to the American leader, the reason for Lebanon's involvement in the conflict is that an "Iranian puppet", the Hezbollah movement, is operating in the country. Trump stressed that Iran and Hezbollah are destroying Lebanon, but they will fall soon.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said on April 29 that Israel must completely cease fire and implement the truce agreement before proceeding to peace talks. Aoun added that all EU countries and Arab states supported the option of negotiations, and there is a consensus among the Lebanese people, especially in the south, on the need to end the conflict.
On April 25, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered strikes against targets of the radical Hezbollah movement in Lebanon. According to his office, the decision was made after a report on the violation of the truce by the group.
