Putin expressed hope for the effectiveness of the NPT conference

Russia expects that the conference on the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) will be effective and will contribute to the nuclear non-proliferation regime. This was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on April 29.

He noted that Russia is one of the leaders in the field of nuclear energy.

"Russia, being one of the leaders in the field of nuclear energy, is ready to continue to develop constructive cooperation in this area with all interested states parties to the treaty," the president said in a statement.\

A day earlier, Russia and Belarus reaffirmed their commitment to the NPT and called for achieving a nuclear-weapon-free and safe world for all. The document notes that the parties reaffirm their obligations under the NPT, including preventing the proliferation of nuclear weapons, advancing towards general and complete disarmament, and ensuring access to the benefits of peaceful atomism.
