Belarus and Russia have confirmed their commitment to the NPT
Russia and Belarus reaffirm their commitment to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and advocate achieving a nuclear-weapon-free and safe world for all. This was announced on April 29 in a joint statement by the states parties to the Treaty on the Establishment of the Union State of Belarus and Russia at the 11th NPT Review Conference.
The document notes that the parties reaffirm their obligations under the NPT, including preventing the proliferation of nuclear weapons, advancing towards general and complete disarmament, and ensuring access to the benefits of peaceful atomism.
"Progress on this path should be carried out on a consensual basis, in stages and in such a way that it contributes to strengthening international peace and stability while increasing the level of security for all and without harming it," the document says.
In a telephone conversation with Lukashenko on April 12, Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed issues of bilateral cooperation between the two countries. It was clarified that the leaders discussed topical issues in the trade and economic sphere, bilateral cooperation and the international agenda. In addition, the Presidents stressed their commitment to developing relations between Moscow and Minsk.
