In March 2026, the average term of car loans for new and used cars in Russia was 5.85 years, which is 14.5% more than in the first spring month of last year. Compared to February of this year, the growth was 0.4%. As the National Bureau of Credit Histories (NBKI) reported on April 29, this indicator has been growing for 11 months in a row.

The highest average term in the car loan segment among the regions in early spring was recorded in Krasnodar (6.55 years), Stavropol (6.47 years) and Perm (6.27 years) territories, as well as in Tyumen (with Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug and Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District) (6.24 years) and Volgograd (6.23 years) regions. The lowest rate was recorded in Moscow (5.09 years), St. Petersburg (5.28 years) and the Moscow region (5.36 years).

The strongest year-on-year growth dynamics was shown by Chuvashia (+24.1%), as well as Samara (+24%), Belgorod (+22.3%), Nizhny Novgorod (+20.8%) and Voronezh (+19.3%) regions. In Moscow and St. Petersburg, it is 11.1% and 15.5% per year, respectively.

The NBKI explained that increasing the terms of car loans allows banks to control the borrowers' debt burden (no higher than 50%) by reducing the monthly payment. Banks' appetite for risk is low due to increased recycling, high interest rates, a general increase in car prices, a reduction in promotions and discounts.

Earlier, on April 27, the head of expert analytics of the financial marketplace "Banks.<url>" Inna Soldatenkova explained how to increase the chances of car loan approval. Despite the reduction in car loan rates, it is becoming more difficult for Russians to get them, she noted.

On April 23, it was reported that in March of this year, the average amount of car loans issued amounted to 1.49 million rubles. Compared to the first month of spring last year, this figure increased by 22.3%.
