WP reported the Pentagon's unwillingness to transfer $400 million in aid to Ukraine.
US Senator Mitch McConnell (Republican from Kentucky) said that the US Department of War is delaying the transfer to Ukraine of a military aid package previously approved by Congress for a total of $400 million. He stated this on April 28 in his article in The Washington Post (WP) newspaper.
He noted that last year, the US Congress allocated $400 million for an initiative to provide security assistance to Ukraine for each of the next two years.
"Nevertheless, the assistance to Ukraine that we approved a few months ago is now gathering dust at the Pentagon," the publication says.
According to him, the military department also did not respond to relevant requests from the Appropriations Committee and the Senate Armed Services Committee. At the same time, he blamed the delays in providing assistance to Kiev on Elbridge Colby, the US Deputy Secretary of Defense for Political Affairs.
Colby said on April 18 that the United States expects its allies to take on the bulk of its support for Ukraine. According to him, further assistance to Kiev should not depend on significant contributions from the United States.
