The doctor assessed the need to eliminate sugar from the diet of children
Ekaterina Pasnova, the chief freelance rehabilitation specialist for children, told whether sugar should be excluded from the children's diet.
In an interview with Radio 1 on Tuesday, April 28, the expert noted that it is not necessary and almost impossible to completely eliminate sugar from a child's diet — moderation is important. According to her, WHO standards are about 15 grams per day for children aged 2-3 years and up to 35 grams for 4-6 years, while in Russian children's institutions the consumption level is close to these values.
The doctor stressed that the main problem is not the sweets themselves, but their use as encouragement: this practice forms the habit of "seizing" successes. She also warned that strict bans could lead to the opposite effect. The specialist added that the rare consumption of sweets is acceptable, and alternatives can be prepared at home in a more healthy way.
