A criminal case against the daughter of the first president of Uzbekistan, Gulnara Karimova, has been dismissed in Switzerland due to procedural obstacles. This was announced on April 28 on the website of the country's radio television.

"The decision, as explained by the chairman of the court, is associated with a lengthy procedural obstacle: the accused cannot actually leave his country until December 2028, as he is serving a prison sentence," the publication says.

It is noted that in this way the court cannot pronounce a verdict before the expiration of the statute of limitations of the case. At the same time, the process continues against the former asset manager of Lombard Odier bank and the bank itself, who are accused of money laundering.

In 2019, the court sentenced Karimova to 13 years and 4 months in prison, she was in the Zangiotinsky women's prison colony No. 21 near Tashkent. Karimova is involved in criminal cases initiated in a number of countries. As part of these criminal cases, her real estate and hundreds of millions of dollars in bank accounts have been frozen in about ten states.

Online publication Podrobno.uz On September 14, 2020, it was reported that the Uzbek authorities had agreed with Switzerland to return $131 million from Karimova's assets to the Uzbek side. The money had been in Swiss banks since 2012.
