In 2026, a number of new visa-free destinations were opened for Russian tourists, and entry to some previously accessible countries became easier. One of the main events was the introduction of a visa-free regime with Saudi Arabia, which will take effect on May 11. Svetlana Gerasimova, an expert at the OnlineTours package tour booking service, told Izvestia on May 1 which countries are now available for trips on more comfortable terms.

She recalled the visa-free regime with China, introduced in September 2025. Initially, it was designed for one year — until September 2026, but the authorities have already expressed their willingness to extend it. Currently, Russians can stay in the country without a visa for up to 30 days.

Since December 2025, Jordan has also become visa-free for Russians: the country has allowed a stay of up to 30 days. Tourists will be able to visit such iconic places as Petra, the Dead Sea and the Wadi Rum Desert.

"Since 2025, Vietnam has increased the visa-free period for Russians from 15 to 45 days. This is enough to not be limited to one resort, but to travel safely around the country — from the capital Hanoi to the tropical island of Phu Quoc. You can also apply for an electronic visa for 90 days with multiple entry," the expert said.

In addition to the new destinations, visa-free travel to Oman, Qatar, Malaysia, a number of CIS countries and Latin American countries is still available to Russians. Gerasimova noted that an online arrival declaration is sufficient in the Maldives.

There have also been changes in Europe: Italy has introduced an electronic visa for Russian tourists, and visa-free travel remains with Turkey, Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Georgia.

"The year 2026 gave Russian tourists more freedom in choosing destinations. Saudi Arabia, China, Jordan — all these countries are now available without lengthy visa procedures. The main thing is to closely monitor the validity period of the passport (usually it takes at least six months) and clarify the rules of entry in advance," the expert concluded.

On April 6, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that the agreement between Russia and Saudi Arabia on the introduction of a visa-free regime would enter into force on May 11. Citizens of the Russian Federation may enter and stay in Saudi Arabia without a visa continuously or for a total of no more than 90 days during a calendar year, provided that they do not work, receive education or reside in the kingdom.
