Improper posture during weeding, ignoring warm-ups and working up a sweat can lead to an exacerbation of chronic diseases, back injuries and pressure surges for summer residents, doctors warn. Sergey Evdokimov, a traumatologist, osteopath, and head of the Neurobalance clinic, told Izvestia about five simple rules that will save summer residents from injury.

"The most common injuries occur when bending: if a person does not use his legs, but only bends his back. Middle-aged people are usually engaged in gardening. Joints have wear and tear, and any additional load can cause micro-injuries. If there were hernias, fractures and other injuries before that, they will also worsen," the doctor noted.

The expert also drew attention to clothes — if you don't dress according to the weather and sweat, then there is a high probability of freezing muscles, joints or catching a cold. Therefore, it is important to choose comfortable clothes that match the weather conditions: it should not be either cold or hot.

Evdokimov also urged summer residents to observe safety precautions. For example, injuries due to lifting weights above the permissible weight for a gardener are common. Falls from heights are also common injuries. It is important to objectively assess your capabilities and the safety of certain actions. In addition, excessive stress leads to increased blood pressure, which is critical for hypertensive patients, the traumatologist emphasized.

"In order to avoid traumatic work in the garden, it is necessary to follow a number of rules. First, before you start working, you need to do a warm-up. Secondly, the load should be increased gradually — from light to complex. Also, we must not forget about rest. Thirdly, if you have chronic heart or vascular diseases, follow all the recommendations of your doctor and do not forget to take medications. Fourth, if you're sweating, change your clothes as soon as possible. And fifth, when drinking alcohol, the risk of injury increases significantly," Evdokimov summed up.

Earlier, Irina Krashkina, a psychotherapist at JSC "Medicine" (Academician Roitberg Clinic), Candidate of Medical Sciences, spoke about the impact of gardening on mental health.
