With the onset of spring, the physiological processes of pets change, but dietary adjustments are not always required. Elena Frolenko, a veterinarian and expert at SUPERPET, a natural food manufacturer, told Izvestia about this on April 30.

According to the expert, molting increases in pets in the spring, so it is important to provide them with sufficient amounts of protein, fats, vitamins and minerals.

"Hormonal changes start in the spring. However, it is wrong to thoughtlessly add vitamins to the feed, you can get hypervitaminosis. Any supplements should be discussed with a veterinarian first," Frolenko said.

The expert stressed that with a balanced diet and no health problems, it is not necessary to change the diet. In such cases, additional intake of vitamins can even be harmful.

At the same time, in her opinion, by the end of winter, animals may deplete their reserves of certain vitamins, especially fat-soluble ones. To avoid a deficiency, the diet should be initially balanced and include meat, offal, as well as a sufficient amount of nutrients.

Frolenko added that an alternative to natural nutrition can be high-quality dry food with a high protein content. According to the expert, the level of activity of animals also changes in the spring, which affects their energy needs. For example, dogs kept in an aviary may need to reduce their portions.

"Dogs living in an apartment, on the contrary, spend more calories because they start walking more, so in the absence of excess weight, you can increase portions," Frolenko said.
