Daniil Khikhnyak, a resident of the Seversky district of the Krasnodar Territory, was sentenced to 12 years and six months in prison for committing sabotage on the railway. This was announced on April 27 by the joint press service of the courts of the region in its Telegram channel.
The charge against Khikhnyak was considered by the Krasnodar Regional Court. The man was found guilty of committing a crime under paragraph "b" of Part 2 of Article 281 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Sabotage").
The investigation found that in December 2024, the defendant found an online advertisement for quick earnings in the amount of 20 thousand rubles. For the sake of this sum, he set fire to a relay cabinet on the railway tracks. A resident of Kuban recorded the process of committing a crime on his phone's video camera.
The press service of the courts explained that the defendant was fully aware of the criminal nature of his actions. At the same time, he allegedly did not assume that the failure of infrastructure facilities could provoke failures in the alarm system and blocking, which creates the risk of a collision or train derailment.
The man suffered serious burns during the arson attack. Due to the injuries, the customer promised to increase the amount of remuneration, but in the end, the defendant did not receive the money.
"The person involved was detained by officers of the Federal Security Service of Russia in the Krasnodar Territory. The court sentenced the perpetrator to imprisonment for a period of 12 years and 6 months," the report says.
