Chery and Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) presented the first crossover of the new Freelander brand at the Beijing Auto Show. The model has received an index of 8, it will be produced and sold in China, as well as exported to other markets. This was announced on April 27 by Carscoops.

The Freelander 8 crossover received a design in the style of the Concept 97 prototype, which was shown earlier in March. The design of the model was developed by teams from the UK and China, the exterior of the SUV was created under the influence of the Freelander SUV of the first generation. If the concept had doors that opened against the direction of travel, then the production model abandoned them in favor of conventional ones. Among the interesting solutions is the angular rear pillar, whose design refers to the old three—door Freelander.

Technical specifications have not yet been announced, but it is known that the Freelander 8 uses an 800-volt electrical architecture, and the batteries will be able to support charging with a capacity of up to 350 kW. The crossover is built on a platform that is designed specifically for electric cars and hybrids.

Six production models are planned to be produced under the Freelander brand over the next five years. The cars will be produced at a joint venture in Changshu, China.

Earlier, on April 24, it was reported that at the auto show in China, Li Auto showed a new modification of the L9 crossover, popular in the Russian market. The flagship version of the model is called Livis. In addition, Hongqi has introduced its first SUV, which may appear in Russia in the future, and the Voyah brand has released the Taishan X8 crossover with a berth.
