Figure skater Aliev called tuberculosis the reason for skipping the season
The 2020 European Figure skating champion Dmitry Aliyev announced on April 27 that he had to withdraw from the 2025/26 season due to tuberculosis.
The figure skater noted that athletes competing in competitions undergo an in-depth medical examination once every six months before each season.
"At one of the walkthroughs, I was told that I did not have a security clearance. <...> Going through all these examinations, we realized that there really is a big problem. <...> A spot was found in the lungs, which it is unclear what was originally associated with. <...> I thought it was all some kind of mistake by doctors, but it turned out not, it was tuberculosis," he said in an interview with Channel One.
In September last year, Aliev's coach Evgeny Rukavitsyn announced that he would not perform in the control rentals of the Russian national team in St. Petersburg due to illness. In addition to the gold of the 2020 European Championship, the 26-year-old athlete also won a silver medal at the 2018 Continental Championship in Moscow. In the 2019/20 season, he also became the champion of Russia.
Honored USSR Figure Skating Coach Tatiana Tarasova announced her discharge from the hospital on April 22 and thanked the doctors for their work. She said that she tries to do everything necessary to maintain a normal state of health.
