The creator of "It: Welcome to Derry" revealed details about the second season
The plot of the sequel to the HBO horror series "It: Welcome to Derry" will unfold in 1935 and will touch upon the little-studied chapters of Stephen King's novel. All the details are in the Izvestia article.
"It: Welcome to Derry": details of the second season
Andy Muschetti, the creator and executive producer of the project, said that the second season will take place in 1935, during the Great Depression era. The authors plan to move away from the usual image of prosperous suburbs where children ride bicycles. Instead, viewers will see an atmosphere of struggle for survival in extreme poverty, which will radically change the situation in the city of Derry.
The central theme of the season will be the story of the Bradley Gang, a group of bank robbers mentioned in Stephen King's original 1986 novel. In the story, the criminals stop in the city to buy ammunition, after which a massacre takes place. Muschetti noted that King based this episode on real events that happened in Maine with the Brady gang.
"The action takes place in 1935 – we're working on it now, and it's very exciting. Those of you who have read the books are probably familiar with the Bradley gang. The Bradley gang is a gang of bank robbers who, not by chance, but they were on their way somewhere and stopped in Derry to buy ammunition, and something terrible happened," Muschetti said during Deadline Contenders TV's panel on the series.

The connection of "It: Welcome to Derry" with the movie universe and the book
The authors of the series strive to uncover the mysteries of the work that were not included in the feature films. One of the main tasks of the creators was to investigate the origin of Pennywise and the personality of Bob Gray. Muschetti clarified that the topic of the possible creation of such a story was discussed during the filming of the film "It 2", which he directed.
"Bob Gray is one of the main mysteries in the book, which was deliberately created to build tension and has never been solved. Our idea was just to open another window into this mystery," he added.
Muschetti also stressed that there are still many stories in the book that deserve to be adapted decades after his first acquaintance with the original source. Showrunner Jason Fuchs, in turn, added that it is important for the team to keep in close touch with the films of 2017 and 2019.
In particular, Muschetti mentioned the possible events of the third season, among which there may be an explosion at the Kitchener Iron Works iron foundry. This is a massive tragedy that occurred in Derry during the Easter egg hunt, as a result of which many children died.
How the first season of "It: Welcome to Derry" ended (contains spoilers)
The first season ended with a large-scale confrontation between the residents of Derry and Pennywise, to whose role Bill Skarsgard returned in the series. Chris Chalke's Dick used his powers to slow down the creature, and the children managed to temporarily neutralize the monster with a mystical dagger. In the finale, the characters admitted that Pennywise would return, but it would be "someone else's battle."
The epilogue of the first season transported viewers back to 1988, creating a direct connection with the events of the films. In the final scene, actress Joan Gregson appeared in the role of Ingrid Kersh, as well as Sofia Lillis, who returned to the role of the young Beverly Marsh. The creators of the series noted that the decision to bring back familiar characters from the first film was made at the last moment to enhance the continuity of the story.
