- CEO of NMG and Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation visited the set of "Black Silk"
Olga Lyubimova, Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, and Svetlana Balanova, CEO of the National Media Group (NMG), visited the set of the detective action film "Black Silk" on April 24. The Nota Bene Film Group film company and the Commercial Fund for the Development of Cinema and Animation, the distributor NMG Kinoprokat, Art Pictures Distribution (part of the National Media Group holding) announced the start of filming of the international blockbuster in mid-March. The film will be released on March 31, 2027.
"Cinema is an instrument of cultural diplomacy and strengthening dialogue between countries, and the Red Silk is a vivid example of this. I am sure that there are many bright new joint projects of different genres ahead of us. Black Silk will also be an important continuation of the cooperation between cinematographers from Russia and China," Lyubimova said.
During the visit, Olga Lyubimova and Svetlana Balanova were given a tour of the pavilion and told in detail about the production of the painting. Special attention was paid to large-scale decorations: a Japanese passenger liner and a giant airship. The project team demonstrated technical solutions that make it possible to recreate the effect of a real storm in the pavilion. For this purpose, the ship's hull is equipped with a spillway system and mounted on a special platform with a movable base that simulates pitching. The interior interiors of the ship and the zeppelin are created using LED screens, which replace chromatics and allow for highly realistic images already during filming.
"Red Silk", the first part of the story, became not only a cultural, but also a socio-political event a year ago, because it is the first joint Russian-Chinese film project in modern history. Now the film "Black Silk" has received the status of a co-production. At the same time, "Black Silk" is an independent story with new mysteries and new characters. It will be understandable and interesting for both fans of the first part and those who are just getting to know this universe, both in Russia and abroad," Balanova emphasized.
The film takes place in Shanghai in the 1930s, where a mysterious cargo is delivered, codenamed "Black Silk". No one knows what lies behind the code name, but intelligence agencies in several countries are already hunting for it. Milos Bikovic, Gleb Kalyuzhny, and Zheng Hanyi will reappear in the film. Maxim Matveev, Serbian actor Aleksandar Radojicic, Maya Giter, Alexey Takharov, Polina Kutsenko, Japanese actors Hiroyuki Mori and Junsuke Kinoshita, as well as Ilya Antonenko and Sergey Annenkov also joined the cast.
The film is directed by Andrey Volgin. The script was written by Maria Nefedova. The story is based on a classic detective intrigue with large-scale action scenes. The general producer of the film is Vadim Byrkin.
The film is being shot with the support of the Cinema Foundation of the Russian Federation, Rostec State Corporation and its member holdings Shvabe and KRET.
Andrey Volgin, the director of the Red Silk film, told Izvestia on March 19 that the film crew had begun work on the sequel to the Russian-Chinese film Red Silk, a new project called Black Silk. It was noted that filming takes place both in Russia and in China. Complex technical solutions are used for some scenes, including large-scale decorations and special pavilions.
