- Magyar called on the security forces to prevent the departure of businessmen close to Orban
On April 25, the leader of the opposition Tisa party, Peter Magyar, appealed to the leadership of law enforcement agencies to ban businessmen from the entourage of Prime Minister Viktor Orban from traveling abroad.
"The oligarchs associated with Orban are transferring tens of billions of forints to the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Uruguay and other remote countries. I am aware that the National Tax and Customs Administration of Hungary [NAV], based on bank reports, has suspended several large transfers related to the entourage of [the head of the department of the Prime Minister of Hungary] Antal Rogan, on suspicion of money laundering," TASS quoted him as saying.
Magyar also demanded that the NAV leadership immediately freeze these funds. In addition, he appealed to the Prosecutor General's Office and the police with a demand to detain those who allegedly caused damage to the state worth trillions of forints. He stressed that law enforcement officers are obliged to prevent them from fleeing to countries with which there is no extradition treaty until the new government starts work.
The leader of Tisa claims that Orban's supporters allegedly intend to sell off their assets inside the country as soon as possible, including TV2 and other media resources, at an undervalued price. Magyar also warned domestic and international investors against buying such businesses, noting that in the future they will be handled by the National Office for Asset Recovery and Protection, a new agency created to combat corruption.
According to the politician, several influential families have already left Hungary, taking their children from educational institutions. Entrepreneur Lorinc Mesaros, who is considered the richest man in the country with a fortune of over €3 billion and a childhood friend of the current prime minister, is expected to leave for Dubai in the coming days. As Magyar noted, the oligarchs are now actively recruiting security personnel to ensure their departure.
