Russia has approved a residency requirement for receiving child benefits
The Russian government has established a rule according to which foreign citizens will be able to apply for a single child benefit only five years after obtaining Russian citizenship. This was reported on April 26 by TASS with reference to the document.
These changes will take effect on April 1, 2027. According to the document, for the right to payment to arise, it is necessary to permanently reside in Russia with the status of a citizen for at least five years. Previously, the rules only required Russian citizenship and permanent residence in the country, without specifying specific dates.
The new requirement for a five-year period of residency will not apply to a number of categories of citizens. An exception is made for those who received a Russian passport by right of birth or as a result of recognition as a citizen, including residents of Donbass and Novorossiya. Also, the censorship will not affect participants in the program for the voluntary resettlement of compatriots, participants in a special military operation and their family members.
The government decree has been prepared in pursuance of the previously adopted law, which introduced an appropriate qualification for new citizens. The Cabinet of Ministers approved the necessary technical changes to the general rules for the appointment and payment of state support.
