Russian schools should eliminate secondary subjects in the curriculum, including learning a second foreign language. This proposal was made on Sunday, April 26, by Sergei Mironov, chairman of the Fair Russia party.

"It is worth giving up the "secondary" subjects. For example, from learning a second foreign language at school, which is still sometimes included in the program, as if it were "rubbery," Mironov said in an interview with TASS.

According to the deputy, students do not need to be educated as polyglots or trained in disciplines that are not useful to them in life. The deputy noted that due to the current approach, children after graduation do not know how to study and think independently, which complicates their further education in higher education institutions.

"Common sense needs to be restored. We need those subjects that people really need, so that they can simply be educated," the parliamentarian concluded.

On April 19, Vladislav Grib, Deputy Secretary of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation, took the initiative to increase the length of the academic year in Russia by two weeks and create a "fifth quarter" for creative activities of schoolchildren. According to him, teachers should receive decent pay for conducting such classes, and lessons within the framework of the "fifth quarter" can be devoted to various creative topics and areas.
