Gagarin race took place in Moscow region

On April 25, the Gagarin Race, dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the first human spaceflight, took place in the Star City near Moscow. The event brought together 2,300 people from various regions of Russia and abroad.

In 2026, the organizers changed the format of the event, abandoning the previous restrictions on the number of runners. For the first time, the event was also held in an online format, thanks to which athletes from Tajikistan joined the action.

"People register on the website, choose the desired format. <...> After overcoming the distance, they download the results from their running trackers, confirming the fact of the run, and after that they receive award—winning products," said Nazar Kolomiets, the organizer of the race, a representative of the League of Heroes.

The athletes covered distances ranging from 300 m to 21.1 km. Among the participants was cosmonaut, Hero of the Russian Federation Ivan Wagner, who ran 10 km. He stressed the importance of such events to promote an active lifestyle.

The head of the Zvezdny Gorodok city district, Artyom Volchak, recalled that the tradition of holding a race in memory of Yuri Gagarin appeared in 1971, three years after the death of the first cosmonaut of the planet. The launches take place on the very square where Gagarin was solemnly welcomed 65 years ago. The head of the district clarified that the city has been hosting guests as part of this sporting event for 56 years.

The participants and medalists of the race positively assessed the level of organization of the event. According to them, the sunny weather on the day of the event contributed to the achievement of high sports results.

Cosmonaut Oleg Artemyev announced on April 9 that April 12 is the day of the first human spaceflight. According to him, the flight of the first man is a symbol of the courage, will, perseverance and hard work of those people who prepared Yuri Gagarin for this flight to take place. He also expressed confidence that the exhibition "The Heart of the First" will give an impetus to younger people.
