Primary school students need a quiet hour, as its introduction can contribute to a more gentle adaptation of children to the learning process. This was announced on April 25 by Sergey Rybalchenko, Chairman of the Commission of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation on demography, protection of family, children and traditional family values.

"I believe that a quiet hour in elementary schools is the right decision. The transition from kindergarten to school should be less stressful for the child, since the conditions should not differ dramatically from those to which children are accustomed in preparatory groups," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

The member of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation noted that the workload for children in primary schools remains quite high, so it is important to seek a balance between the learning process and the possibility of recuperation. According to him, when organizing daytime sleep, it is necessary to take into account the age characteristics of schoolchildren, since not all children are ready to sleep during the day, but for some such rest can be an effective way to restore strength.

Rybalchenko added that such a measure should be promoted if there are extended day groups where children stay for several more hours before their parents arrive. He noted that the number of such groups will grow as parents are busy at work.

In addition, the chairman of the OP commission believes that a quiet hour can be organized in a more flexible format — not as a mandatory regime for everyone, but as an opportunity for some children to relax during the day. According to him, we are talking about creating calm conditions where the child can lie down if desired without strict organization of the process.

Vladislav Grib, Deputy Secretary of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation, said on April 19 that Russia should increase the length of the school year by two weeks and create a "fifth quarter" for creative activities of schoolchildren. Grib noted that teachers should receive decent pay for conducting such classes. Lessons within the framework of the "fifth quarter" can be devoted to a variety of creative topics and directions.
