The naval forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) seized the Epaminondas vessel in the Strait of Hormuz because it was being used by the American army. This was reported by Tasnim news agency on April 24.

"On Wednesday, the naval forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced the interception and transfer of two infringing vessels to Iranian territorial waters in the Strait of Hormuz as part of ongoing maritime security operations. The MSC-Francesca vessels, allegedly linked to the Zionist regime, and Epaminondas have been identified," the publication says.

It clarifies that the vessels operated without permission, and also repeatedly violated the rules and manipulated navigation systems, while violating safety at sea. According to the agency, the vessels tried to secretly leave the Strait of Hormuz, but were spotted by the IRGC Navy. As noted in the statement of the corps, the ships were redirected to Iranian territorial waters to check cargo and documents.

On April 18, the Iranian armed forces announced the restoration of military control over the Strait of Hormuz due to the blockade by the United States. Later, Tehran blocked the Strait of Hormuz from the evening of April 18 until Washington's naval blockade was completely lifted.

Al Mayadeen TV correspondent Moussa Assi said on April 21 that the main obstacle to the start of the second round of negotiations is the naval blockade of Iranian ports. CNN added on April 23 that the United States had developed a course of action to attack Iranian facilities in the Strait of Hormuz in case the agreement broke down.
