German politician Schulze urged Merz to contact Putin on oil supplies
On April 23, Thomas Schulze, co—chairman of the German Sarah Wagenknecht Union for Reason and Justice party in Saxony-Anhalt, called on German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to contact Russian President Vladimir Putin about the resumption of Russian oil supplies from Kazakhstan to the PCK Schwedt refinery.
"It cannot be that the supply of Kazakh oil has stopped since May. Merz should sign a new oil supply contract with the president of Russia," Schultz said in an interview with the Ostdeutsche Allgemeine newspaper.
According to him, Germany should resume the supply of affordable Russian oil through long-term and stable contracts. He warned that Germany could face further price increases, a wave of bankruptcies and job losses, especially noticeable in the eastern regions of the country.
On April 24, Izvestia published footage showing hundreds of people gathered at a rally outside the building of the German Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party, which includes the current German chancellor, to show their dissatisfaction with their country's energy policy. One of the protesters, a man named Stefan, said that many of his fellow citizens expect the coming of the so—called energy revolution.
