A working meeting was held in Moscow between Andrey Chibis, Governor of the Murmansk Region, and Andrey Ryumin, CEO of PJSC ROSSETI. Improving the reliability of electricity supply in the Arctic region, tariff policy and consolidation of networks were discussed.

Natural phenomena have become more likely to affect the operation of power grids: excessive wind and ice loads occur, for which power facilities were not designed. It is necessary to reconstruct the infrastructure with the introduction of modern solutions.

"We approach the issue of the state of the electric grid complex systematically and are in constant contact with PJSC ROSSETI. Especially considering the circumstances that occurred in January of this year," Chibis said. He added that an agreement on investments in infrastructure has been signed with the company, and work is underway at the federal level: funds from the Treasury infrastructure loan have been raised to modernize the main power supply line in Murmansk.

Ryumin noted that in 2025, the region and its subsidiary ROSSETI North-West signed a regulatory agreement to increase investments in infrastructure development. More than 2.8 billion rubles will be allocated to finance projects this year. It is planned to reconstruct the 150 kV power transmission lines that supply Murmansk and Severomorsk with electricity. Power engineers will install direct current ice melting systems on them.

"The Murmansk Region is a gateway to the Arctic and a strategically important region where large—scale government tasks are being solved. At the same time, the Arctic region is an area with an extreme climate, which increases the load on the electric grid infrastructure. We are implementing projects that will improve the reliability of electricity supply to consumers. And we are discussing with the region additional measures aimed at solving this problem," Ryumin added.

The company has developed a set of measures to improve reliability for 2026-2033. It provides for the modernization of infrastructure, the purchase of special equipment and additional transmission poles for backup.
