The summer river navigation season has begun in Moscow

A parade of ships will be held on the Moskva River in honor of the opening of the summer navigation season in the capital. This was announced by Mayor Sergei Sobyanin in his personal blog.

With the beginning of the season, the sightseeing routes popular among residents and guests of the capital are resumed. In turn, cruise ships will depart from the Northern and Southern River Stations to dozens of cities across the country.

"Traditionally, the opening of the season was preceded by extensive preparations," Sobyanin said. "City services have put the embankments and piers in order: the parapets have been cleaned, granite foundations have been renewed and worn rubber bumpers have been replaced."

Facades and navigation steles were updated at the Northern and Southern River Stations, engineering and fire systems were checked, and an introductory briefing was organized for employees.

According to Sobyanin, 2025 was a record year for Moscow river transport. The total number of trips — cruise, pleasure, and regular electric transport — reached 3.8 million. After the renovation, the Northern and Southern River Stations last season received and dispatched more than 2.2 thousand cruise ships and served 360 thousand passengers. Cruise passenger traffic is expected to grow by another 10% this year, the mayor added.

He recalled that regular river transport in Moscow did not stop even in winter. There will be a number of innovations in this area this year. In particular, a fourth route, Luzhniki– Kievsky, will be added to the three existing electric vessel routes (Kievsky – Fili Park, ZIL – Pechatniki and Novospassky—ZIL). "The Kievsky berth will become a single transport hub between the first and fourth river routes," Sobyanin said.

The length of the fourth route will be more than 4 km, it will connect three districts — Khamovniki, Ramenki and Dorogomilovo. Its creation became possible thanks to the reconstruction of the Luzhniki-Tsentralny pier, which became part of the comprehensive landscaping of Luzhniki, the mayor said.

Also this year, it is planned to extend the ZIL – Novospassky route to the Krasnye Kholmy pier on Kosmodamianskaya Embankment. As a result, its total length will increase to 7 km.
