The urologist told about the products that lead to urolithiasis
Urolithiasis develops most often due to malnutrition. Vigen Malkhasyan, urologist-oncologist, doctor of the highest category, Professor, MD, head of the urology department No. 67 of the Moscow Urological Center (based on the Botkin Moscow National Research Medical Center), told on Thursday, April 23, which food is the main cause of stone formation and how to adjust the diet to maintain kidney health.
He noted in an interview with aif.ru If the urine test showed more than 0.5 mmol per day, that is, an increased level of calcium oxalate, oxalic acid salts, then the first stage of treatment is monitoring the intake of these substances from the outside.
To prevent stone formation, you should consciously abandon a number of products: cocoa, black tea, chocolate, especially with a high content of cocoa beans; greens, spinach, sorrel, parsley, celery and green pepper; beetroot; figs, raspberries, rhubarb; almonds, walnuts, cashews, hazelnuts; buckwheat.
Malkhasyan noted that there is a common myth that with kidney stones you need to give up calcium. However, the calcium contained in dairy products is the main ally in the fight against oxalates, he stressed.
According to the expert, the daily intake of calcium for the prevention of urolithiasis (ICD) is 1000-1200 mg. This is 1 liter of kefir or milk, 7-10 slices of cheese or a kilogram of cottage cheese.
The urologist added that salt intake should be limited, since sodium directly affects the excretion of calcium — the more salt, the more calcium is excreted in the urine, which creates a breeding ground for stones.
It is also necessary to control animal protein — excess meat, poultry and fish leads to an increase in uric acid levels, which provokes the growth of both uric acid stones and calcium oxalate stones.
It is recommended to increase the amount of fiber in the diet. Fruits and vegetables are rich not only in fiber, but also in citrates, which are natural inhibitors of stone formation — they bind calcium in urine, preventing it from crystallizing.
The doctor emphasized that following these simple principles helps to reduce the concentration of stone-forming substances in the urine and maintain kidney function.

On September 23 last year, Evgenia Ivanov, an endocrinologist, internist, and nutritionist of the highest category at the NCC NCC No. 2 of the Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution "RNC named after Academician B.V. Petrovsky", spoke about the health risks of following a keto diet. The specialist emphasized that such a diet has a positive short-term effect. According to her, long-term risks may include problems with the cardiovascular system, nutritional deficiencies, kidney strain, and temporary side effects during the adjustment period.
In turn, nutritionist, gastroenterologist of the first category and psychologist of eating behavior Nuria Dianova warned that unbalanced and restrictive diets increase the risk of developing urolithiasis and cholelithiasis, lead to the effect of "yo-yo", when the weight returns with excessive force after a sharp weight loss.
Earlier, Natalia Mokrysheva, director of the National Medical Research Center for Endocrinology of the Russian Ministry of Health, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, warned that an obese person is 98% more likely to have a stroke, acute cerebral circulatory disorders, and a 50% increased risk of heart attacks. In addition, such people usually suffer from osteoarthritis, arthritis, various gallbladder diseases, urolithiasis and gallstone diseases, the Moscow City News Agency reports.
