The deputy spoke about the procedure for paying salaries in May
In May 2026, employees who work a five-day work week may face a situation in which the payment for the second half of the month will be higher than for the first half due to the uneven distribution of working days. This was announced in an interview with Izvestia by State Duma deputy from the Liberal Democratic Party, Deputy Chairman of the Budget and Taxes Committee Kaplan Panes.
"In May 2026, a special feature will arise: the payment for the second half of the month will be higher than for the first. The reason is the number of working days. With a five—day working week in May 2026, there are only 19 working days: 9 working days in the first half of May and 10 working days in the second," he said.
The deputy clarified that in accordance with the Labor Code, employers are required to pay wages at least twice a month, and its amount for each part of the billing period is determined based on the time actually worked. In this regard, the second half of May 2026 will be paid in a larger amount compared to the first.
According to the Russian Labor Code, if the day of payroll coincides with a weekend or holiday, payment is made in advance, on the last working day. Therefore, Russians who receive a salary on May 10 will receive money on Friday, May 8. The advance payment date will remain unchanged.
