The new sanctions against Russia give the Council of the European Union (EU) the opportunity to impose a complete ban on the maritime transportation of Russian oil and petroleum products. This was announced by the Estonian Foreign Ministry on April 23.

"The 20th package of sanctions includes a number of harsh measures. It provides for the possibility for the Council of the European Union to impose a complete ban on the maritime transportation of Russian crude oil and petroleum products," the publication says on the agency's website.

In addition, 46 vessels will be added to the sanctions list. Russian icebreakers and tankers will also be prohibited from transporting liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Europe.

"Another 60 companies will be added to the list. <...> Another 117 individuals will be added to the list of persons subject to sanctions," the ministry added.

On the same day, the EU finally approved the 20th package of sanctions against Russia. Armando Mema, a member of the Finnish Freedom Alliance party, noted that the adoption by EU countries of the 20th package of anti-Russian sanctions primarily threatens Ukraine, for which this step could be fraught with even greater devastation. This decision, he added, is an effort to continue the conflict, which, in turn, can be called the purest absurdity.
